Full List of Universities Under ASUU – Why You Should Know Them!

With over 170 countries across Nigeria, choosing the right university can feel like picking the best flavor of ice cream from Coldstone creamy with endless options to give your brain a dent. But fear not, this comprehensive guide will guide and shed light on a subset of the universities.

But before you drown in a sea of brochures, let’s talk ASUU (Academic Staff Union of Universities) a crucial subset of the Nigerian universities.

If you’re seeking a university renowned for academic excellence, vibrant student life, and a commitment to social justice, then universities under ASUU are definitely worth considering.

So, who is ASUU, and why should it matter to your university hunt?

Imagine them as superheroes for academic excellence whom consistently top the university ranking in Nigeria, fighting for better funding, fair salaries for professors, and oh yeah, making sure your future isn’t stuck in the educational dark ages.

However, with all the goodies attached to ASUU associates, there’s one major setback that might kill your zeal of attending any ASUU related schools which is the ‘Strike‘.

This blog post isn’t just about hype. We’re giving you the juicy details: the lowdown on ASUU’s mission, the perks of going ASUU, and the ultimate secret weapon – so your case won’t be like mine.

ASUU schools are known for strike as they hardly go a calendar year without going on strikes which last for months and end up wasting students precious time.

Every strike declared by ASUU crippled Nigerian public universities as all academic activities were suspended, and students were sent home.

Let’s take a look at my story and why attending ASUU universities might waste your time.

Immediately after matriculation into the university, I have been planning how to spend university days and plan towards achieving a first class degree in 4 years. But unfortunately, ASUU happened to me and every other students.

Finally, we eventually spend over 7 to 8 years for a 4 years course at the university, then it was time for my younger brother to pick his university he asked me quoting, “Bros, which universities are under ASUU and how many university are under them? Cos i no want waste time like you ooo.”

The above question really hurt and get me thinking, but then what do I do?

Therefore, we made it mandatory for him to pick a university that is not under ASUU so as to ensure my brother doesn’t go through the pain of spending double of the years he is meant to spend and ensure my parents do not have to spend more money just to see him through school.

I went through the pain of filtering through universities under ASUU and ensuring we do not fall into the trap of picking another ASUU licensed university.

That did not only ensure my brother was able to finish school as soon as possible, but I now had a data of Federal and State universities that are under ASUU and the ones that were not.

Founded in 1978, ASUU is a Nigerian union of university academic staff that looks to manage or in some cases control the federal and state universities that are under their union and It is headed by Professor Osodeke.

The main purpose of ASUU, as a trade union and a pressure group, is to serve as an organization of academic staff in universities; regulate relations between academic staff and their employers and among members; establish and maintain a high standard of academic performance and professional practice.

However it is good to know that ASUU is not the only Nigerian union of university academic staff, as there are 2 others in the name of CONUA, and NAMDA. However ASUU seems to be the one with a large university beneath its care.
