Babcock University was named after an American missionary by the name of David C. Babcock, who pioneered the work of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Nigeria in 1914. He was based in Erunmu in Oyo State, Nigeria.

Brief History Of Babcock Unversity [1959 – Present]

Founded by the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Nigeria, Babcock University (BU) got its from David C. Babcock an American missionary and pioneer of the SDAC. After previously bearing the names; Adventist College of West Africa and Adventist Seminary of West Africa.

With only seven “ministerial” students to its name, The School was originally established on September 17, 1959, as a senior college for training church workers from the West African sub-region.

However, by 1966 after its first-ever set of graduates, the school opened its door to students from within and outside the church, and enrolment included students taking Business Administration and two-year Pre-Nursing students.

On April 20, 1999, Babcock became one of the first three private universities in Nigeria after it was included by the Federal Government of Nigeria, and On September 13th of that same year over 1000 students made their way to the school with their matriculation taking place by January 28 year 2000.

In June 2009 the school hit three milestones, the first being its 7th graduation, the second was 50 years of being an institution, and the third one was the celebration of its 10th Anniversary since it became a university.

In the following year, the school launched a postgraduate school which took off in the third quarter of 2010, and a medical school which took off in January 2012 ever since Babcock has strived and made moves to ensure it continues the legacy of upholding cutting-edge excellence in education.
