Legacy University, Okija (LUO) is one of the private universities in Nigeria that offers diverse undergraduate programs to students and is regarded as the most preferred private university in Southeast Nigeria.

Founded in less than a decade, LUO has secured full National Universities Commission (NUC) accreditation in all her courses offered and was reported to have emerged as the first position in the Student-Teacher Ratio Ranking, South East Zone conducted by NUC  for the year 2021.

The ranking results also showed that Legacy University took the first position in ranking by International Students, Southeast Zone, and also came second in ranking by Academic Efficiency in the same zone as reported by The Sun Newspaper.

It was also disclosed that Legacy University emerged in 43rd position during the NUC 2021 private universities ranking and emerged 110 positions in the ranking of all the Universities in Nigeria.

However, according to him was first discouraged by the statement of former Executive Secretary of the NUC, Prof. Julius Okogie who described his move into private university as a ‘suicide mission‘ in 2008.

However, that statement did not kill the dream as he was able to bring his dream to live in 2016 by fully establishing Legacy University in his home state.

When was Legacy University founded?

Legacy University was established and founded in 2016. However, the university was fully accredited by the National University Commission (NUC) in 2020 and granted full license to operate as a private university in Nigeria.
